Take me Back to Saranac Lake

For my second assignment of the week I chose Your Favorite Photo! I’m really excited to be able to share my favorite photo in this assignment and talk about why it is my favorite photo!

Above is my favorite picture I have ever taken. This is the view of Saranac Lake at Saranac Young Life Camp. This past summer I spend a month of my life working and living at this young life camp. This picture if of a view I saw pretty much 3 times a day, because it was right outside of the dining hall. This picture brings back a lot of amazing memories from the month that I spent at this camp. All the friends that I made and the laughs that I had. I miss this place daily and wish I could go back tomorrow! I think this picture capture exactly what this camp is all about: the lake and being in nature.

Good for the Soul

The first assignment that I chose to do this week was Places of Peace. I was really excited to be able to do this assignment and think of all the places that I love and feel at peace. I first started off by going through my photos and thinking of times that I was at peace. I collected 4 different photos that made me think of really good times, times of peace, etc. Then I put them in a collage and posted it to twitter!

The top photo, is from when I went on a hike with some of my friends last year. I love being outside and especially love hiking. It is something that brings me a ton of peace.

Then when working our way down on the left, we have the Outpost. This is the place I spent a month of my summer working. Now, sometimes this was stressful, but this place will alway bring me a sense of peace and home. This also reminds me of the experience of working at the camp in general and I love that place a lot!

To the right of that is Lake Anna. The picture is from a trip that I took with some of my friends this summer. I love any body of water (especially lakes). They always feel really peaceful and calm.

The last photo is from the Rappahannock River. Like I said before, any body of water really makes me feel calm. It is so amazing that we have our own body of water right down the street from the college. I spend a lot of my summer days here.

This assignment has been one of my favorite I have ever done!

Quarter of the Way Done

This week was really fun and I really enjoy working on all the assignments this week! It was nice to be able to pick the writing assignments that we got to do this week and put a lot of heart into them.

I first started off with starting on my writing assignments for the week. I ended up picking 5 different exciting assignments that added up to 12.5 stars. My favorite assignment from this week was definitely being able to write a letter to my future husband. This is something I have always meant to do, and to be able to just take 10-15 minutes out my day and write this letter was really fun!

Next I decided to start working on my daily creates. I like being able to have these small assignments to be able to be creative every day. My favorite this week was definitely being able to think what would be behind my door!

Time to get creative

Lastly, I went back the read The New Digital Storytelling: Creating Narratives with New Media and watched the videos before talking about my T.V. show. I picked Full House because it is one of my favorite T.V. shows ever. I had a lot of fun thinking about why the writer/director told a story from the 80s.

Full House!

This week was a lot of writing, but I really enjoyed it!

Full House!

Growing up and still now one of my favorite shows has been full house! I loved everything about this show growing up. The characters, the house they lived in, the family dynamic, etc. Full House was a T.V. Show that began airing in 1987 and finished it last episode in 1995. Meaning this show was on for about 7 years and had 8 seasons. The shows follows a newly widowed father of three, Danny Tanner, who after his wife died recurs his brother-in-law and best friend to help him raise his 3 daughters. This shows follows all 3 of the men and the 3 daughters as they had to navigate life. This T.V. showed what a family dynamic really is. It did not try to sugar coat it or paint a false reality, which I think a lot of T.V. especially back in the 80s would do. This show was just a feel good show that anyone would want to watch. It was technically categorized as a sitcom, but it also had drama and a bunch of different love stories. I think the writers on this show the a great job on keeping the theme of the show light while also putting hard topics and situations in the show.

Time to get Creative

This week we were tasked in completing 3 daily creates. The first one that I decided to do was to write/draw/make a mini-memoir. When I saw this assignment I immediately thought about my grandfather. He passed away a couple of years ago and he was one of my favorite people. I loved being able to think about him again and the type of loving soul he was.

This next daily create that I did was open the door. When I first saw this daily create I was confused on what to put behind my door and had to think about it for a second. Then I figure out what I wanted to put behind my door, my brothers dog. This dog is probably one of my favorite dogs that I have ever met. I do not get to see him that often since my brother lives in Norfolk but I love getting to see him and play with him.

The last daily create that I did this week was one page zine. For the assignment I was tasked to make a one page zine. I had to first fold the paper so it came out to the zine. Once this was done, I had to think of a topic to have on my zine. I decided to use it as a time to teach people how to draw a turtle! It was really fun to be able to take a couple of moments out of day to be creative and draw a turtle!

Live a Day in Royalty

For my last writing assignment for this week, I decided to When and Where would you live. For this assignment, I wanted to connect it to our theme of the 80s. This is when I decided I would think about what my life would be if I grew up in royalty in the 80s. I decided that I would choose to live in the Buckingham Palace as if I was related to the queen of England.

First I want to find a good picture of the Buckingham Place to show everyone where I would be living for this assignment.

The reason I decided to pick this place to live in the 1980s was because ever since I was a little girl, I have always thought about what it would be like to be born into royalty and what would be like to grow up in that type of spotlight.

When I started thinking about what it would be really like growing up in royalty, I realized that I probably would be as great as I thought it would be as a little girl. I would be in the spot light all the time, and I think I would feel like I would not be able to make a mistake. I think I would be a lot harder than I first thought it would be.

On another note, I do think it would be fun to see everything that would be going on behind the scenes. Like all the drama that the general public does not get to see. I think if I lived in the Buckingham Palace in the 1980s I would be running around trying to see all that was happening with everyone and learning everything there is to know about being royalty.

I really enjoyed being able to tap into my creative side and go back to something I used to dream about as a little girl!

Dear Future Husband

Something I think about pretty often is who my future husband is. I have been meaning to start writing letters to said husband for a while but always put it off, so when I saw that one of the assignments that I could do for this week was to write a letter to my future husband I was super excited.

I sat down at my desk and started writing. I talk about how it was crazy that I do not know who will receive this letter one day and how I could already of met him when writing the letter.

I also talk about the hopes and desires that I have for him and for our future relationship. I talk about how I want him to keep me adventurous and that I hope we never stop exploring the world together.

I know that some people post exactly what they write in the letter during this assignment, but I decided that I wanted this letter to only be read by my future husband. I feel like this is a very special and emotional thing that I want to only share with that one special person. But here is a picture of the letter in the envelope.

I really enjoyed this assignment (it was probably my favorite that I have done so far) and it will be something that I think I’m going to start doing on a semi-regular basis.

Throwing it back to the 80s

The next assignment that I decided to do for this week was How does a song make you feel. I listen to music all the time. When I am driving to a from school, walking around campus, doing homework, cooking, cleaning, etc. So I feel like I get really attached to songs and almost every song can bring out some sort of emotion out of me.

When I was thinking about this assignment I automatically knew that I wanted to do a throwback 80s song as the song I would listen to and share my emotions. That is when I ended up choosing to listen to I Wanna Dance With Someone by Whitney Houston.

I think almost everyone has heard this song by Whitney Houston and I was so excited to listen to it since I had not heard it in a long time and I wanted to see what type of emotions this song would bring to me.

I clicked play on the youtube video and started listening. Almost automatically, I wanted to get up and dance around. This song is such a feel good dance song and I realized how much I love this song. I also just has a really fun message without being inappropriate or weird like a lot of music now a days is.

This song also brought back a lot of memories from high school! My friends and I would listen to this song a lot. I do not know exactly why we would always listen to this song but we did.

No Limits

I have some many things that I have want to do in the future that when I saw that creating a bucket list could be one of my assignments, I was so excited to be able to write them all down! I am so excited to travel and experience so many different things in my life so I am going to list my top 10 that I have not done yet and still want to experience. This is not in any type of order!

  1. Skydiving (planning on going with my roommate this spring)
  2. Travel around Europe (kind of like backpacking)
  3. Go on a mission trip
  4. Go to all 50 states
  5. Visit Australia (Literally my dream vacation)
  6. Go to a Late Night TV Taping (Preferably James Cordon)
  7. Go on a wild life safari
  8. Go up in a hot air ballon
  9. See all 8 wonders of the world (I have already seen The Colosseum)
  10. Touch 6 out of 7 Continents and swim in 4 out of 5 Ocean (Probably my number 1)

I had a lot of fun being able to finally write out some of the things that are on my mental bucket list!

Snail Mail

The assignment Letter From Out of the Blue was the first assignment that I decided to do for this week! I was so excited when I saw that this was one of the assignments that I would be able to do this week. I tend to write letters with a lot of my friends that live far away because I think it such a sweet form of communication. I think communication through texting or other social media platforms can feel impersonal.

I decided that for this assignment I would write a letter to one of my friends, Olivia. I met Olivia this summer while working at a camp. We became very close friend really fast and it has been really sad going back to our normal lives. She lives in Kentucky so I have not seen Olivia since this summer and I decided that she would be perfect to write a letter out of the blue.

I got a cute card, that I already had in my desk and started writing. The letter contain a bunch of me updating her on my life and what has been going on and asking her questions about her life in Kentucky.

I had a lot of fun with this assignment and getting to connect with an old friend!
